dS clan website

Just a message to $noop about a website for our clan.

What do you want to include on the site? How many pages? Content? Layout?
What do you want to design it in? i.e php dhtml flash css asp html use of java/vbscripts?
Do you want to include uploads/downloads of maps or other files?
Will the website include an embedded forum or will we continue to use this forum?

Anybody else have any suggestions about what to include in ds website?

Hm, I think most of your questions depend on the choosen hoster. Until now, I never met a hoster, offering asp- or java-hosting for free. The use of Flash would lock out all the people, who do not have installed it from our site. Oh and vbscripts are really evil, cause they sometimes do not work properly on Firefox, Opera or Safari. The use of dhtml most likely would require the use of Ajax.
Offering up-/downloads is a matter of transfer-limit, so it although depends on the hoster.
An embedded forum would be nice, but it would require a database in the background, though most providers offer this right now, it's still depending on the provider.

So I think a first step would be, to choose a provider and check out, what services he offers.

According to the light-weight development style, maybe we should start with a small number of simple, static html pages, on which we can build upon.

As an alternative we could start, using one of these freely available clan - website - toolkits, but I'm not really into these things.

I thought about simple website with the most important informations etc. and forum could be continue all the time. but if you prefer something other it can be ...

1.i can do layout in ps if you want
2.my idea is to just do site with menu on the top etc. and do thing when you click something on menu full site is not re-loading but just the informations - you know what i mean ?
3.hmmm i dont know, if yes it will not be many of it...
4.for me this forum is good so it can stay.

Looks nice $n00p. But what do you want to place in the two areas at the top of the page?
If you want to place dates and war - results in it, I guess 5 lines of text would be big enough, if you want to place something else in it, just tell me.

i just did lines, idk for what if i understand good i have to change this 3 txt areas into the 1 ?

Personally, I like the current layout. For example we can put dates top left and war results top right, while we put the main content in the lower box.

i dont know how we going to do this site i mean i did layout and im not good in doing site, "cutting" the buttons to make hiperlinks from it etc.(i remember bandit said she know how to do it) and i know only html so i think someone must help me ... anyway i dont want to be main webmaster of the site so dont leave me alone with site when it will be done ...

oh and i did background of the outside side of the layout its 1600x1600 cuzz i didnt know how big it should be

no you dont understand there are txts on layouts menu (info,wars etc.) and i want make it clickable . you understand ? oh and if we need other txt on menu just tell me
i dont know how to do it i had long time ago program to do it but i dont remember name. if you can do it i can give you what you need i mean .psd project of layout or .png layout without this gray background (its only at the moment i did other background like i said but i cant upload it now) etc.

And I need to do this for all the pages. Home page and then for each link ie. news, wars, info, forum.

Site is done, we just have to talk about informations on it - what to write etc. and write it. Then just put site to web

Yes I think I need to ask 5had0w about <div> tags for the tables/content.

As I had to slice the .psd into image files, this produced sections like tables. The nasty html rendered by photoshop messed up the editable content areas.

It took me ages to sort out the editable content areas and I had to replace the image layouts with the background img tag and div tags to be able to write in the sections. I think the html could be refined a lot more.

Maybe I can give you a hint, on what I learned, when using HTML. Div - tags most likely screw up any layout, cause they force a newline at each end-tag. It's better to use span in conjunction (is this the proper word here?) with CSS instead.

Thanks 5had0w. I will try to use span with css. Yes conjunction is the correct word.

I still have copies of the files, so I can easily edit the div tags and replace them with span tags.
